Prophet's Reward 5

"Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper."
2 Chronicles 20:20b

 THE PROPHET'S REWARD  by Dr. John David Kirby - Part 5

The second thing that the woman did was to provide the man of God with a bed.  The bed has a number of important points that I would like to make known. First:  It speaks of rest and rejuvenation.  This is a critical aspect of the Christian life. Rest is “vital” to hearing the voice of God.  Being “at rest” and “in peace” are crucial aspects in hearing from the Lord.  One of the ways that you can help your “man of God” rest, is to do things for him that will give him more time “to rest”!  It is amazing how “little things” can add up and really take up time.  I encourage you to “look around” the church, or the meeting, and see what you can do to help “lighten the load” of your “man of God”.  It can be as simple as throwing away someone else’s trash left on a pew or in the parking lot.  These “simple” acts of kindness can go a long way to bring rest to your “man of God.”  The more you are around your “man of God” the more you will “have his heart”.  You will begin to “know” the things that he has to do, and the way he likes them to be done.  This will enable you to take care of these “little things” so he won’t have to.  I am talking of course of the things that you would be “authorized” to take care of. These “blessings” will help your “man of God” have more time to seek the Lord and have His Word and His Heart for His people!

Many believers are so busy trying to hear God that they are running here and there like little rodents on a wheel. They are exerting a lot of energy and getting no where. God wants us to hear His voice, but He also wants us to enter into His rest.

“It is in the place of His rest that we will hear His voice.”

We must first be at peace with God, secondly at peace with others, and thirdly at peace with ourselves.  This is extremely important for all Christians to hear the voice of the Lord!

Isa 11:10

And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Heb 3:18-19

18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Heb 4:1

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

Heb 4:10-11

10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

The Bible records that the great prophet/seer Samuel first heard the Voice of God in "Shiloh" as “he was laying down to sleep”!

1 Sam 3:3-4

3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

Shiloh means “place of rest”, “tranquil”, “secure”, and “successful”.

“True” success is when we are “at peace” with God, others, and our self, while walking in and fulfilling the perfect will of God!”

The second thing the bed speaks of is the ministry of dreams and visions.
One of the aspects of the ministry of the prophet is to receive dreams and visions from the Lord.

Num 12:6

 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

Job 33:14-18

14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

Joel 2:28-29

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

The Scriptures show us that God communicates with His prophets and his people through dreams and visions.

The third thing that the woman did was provide the man of God with a table.  The table speaks of “the provision of God”.

First: It speaks of Christ, God’s provision of Salvation for the World.

In the Old Testament we see a “prophetic picture” of Christ offering Himself to God the Father for the salvation of mankind.
We see this in the offering of the “shewbread,” which was offered on the “table of shewbread” in the Tabernacle.

Ex 25:23

Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood: two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

Ex 25:30

And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway.

2 Chron 2:4

Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.

In the New Testament we see the fulfillment of this prophetic picture in Jesus Christ as “The Bread of Life,” offered for the souls of mankind on the cross of Calvary.

John 6:32-35

32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

John 6:47-51

47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

48 I am that bread of life.

49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

John 6:53-58

53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Second: the table speaks of God preparing a table for us in the presence of our enemies!

Ps 23:5

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

The Lord has promised to bless us with abundance right in the face of our enemies. No matter what you are facing today, no matter how hard the devil is coming against you, just rejoice and enjoy the banquet feast of the Lord!

Thirdly:  The table speaks of God’s faithfulness to provide for you all that you need in your life.

Ps 23:1

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 Cor 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Phil 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Lay claim to the promise of His continual provision, no matter what may be happening to you or around you. “God is faithful to His Word.”

Isa 55:11

 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The fourth thing that the woman did was provide the man of God with a stool.  The stool speaks of a place of authority, rule, or “dominion”.
Just as a King sits on his throne as a symbol of his authority over his kingdom and domain, our King, Jesus, is seated on His throne of authority over all of the galaxies of creation.

He is seated in authority as our Redeemer.

Heb 1:3

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

He is seated in authority as our Atonement.

Heb 10:12

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

He is seated in authority as our God.

Rev 4:2-4

2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

He is seated in authority as our Lord.

Phil 2:8-11

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The stool or chair that the woman provided for the man of God also speaks
Of “the authority of the believer.”  Christ gave us His very own authority to do what He did when He was on the Earth, and to restore to mankind the authority that Adam originally had on the Earth before the fall.

Gen 1:28

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Matt 10:1

And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Luke 9:1-2

9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

Luke 10:17-20

17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Matt 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

John 14:12

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Eph 2:4-7

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

The fifth thing that the woman provided for the man of God was a candlestick.  The candlestick speaks of  Revelation, Illumination, Insight and Foresight.  To understand the candlestick we must go back to the Tabernacle of Moses.

Ex 25:31-37

31 And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

32 And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:

33 Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.

34 And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers.

35 And there shall be a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick.

36 Their knops and their branches shall be of the same: all it shall be one beaten work of pure gold.

37 And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it.

The Candlestick was the “only” light in the Sanctuary or “Holy Place” in the Tabernacle of Moses.  It was the light that “lit up” The Table of Shewbread and The Altar of Incense.  It was the “only” light that revealed the way into the Holy of Holies; and into the very Presence of God Himself!

The Candlestick also speaks of  The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation (Who is The Holy Spirit of God Himself) Who rested upon the Lord Jesus Christ  without measure!

Eph 1:15-23

15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

John 3:34

For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

In the Book of Revelation we find Christ our Eternal God and King in the midst of  “The Seven Golden Candlesticks”.
The Seven Golden Candlesticks also speak of Christ Himself!
Even though we see Jesus “in the midst” of  “The Seven Golden Candlesticks,” the spiritual reality is that Jesus Himself is The “One” perfect “Light of the world”!

John 8:12

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 9:5

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Jesus also taught that we as His people were “the light of the world!”

Matt 5:14

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

The word of God teaches us that Christ is the “Head” of the Church and we (the believers) are His Body!

Col 1:18

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

1 Cor 12:27

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

The “Body” of Christ is also the “Church” of Christ.  The “seven” golden candlesticks also speak of the “seven” churches.

Rev 1:20

20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

The Holy Scriptures teach us that “Gold” stands for Deity or God. It also teaches us that the number “seven” is God’s Divine number of “perfection!” Jesus Christ is God, He is the perfect Sacrifice and Savior of the world!
He is the Head and we are His Body, the Church.

The “seven” churches speak of “one” perfect Church with Christ Himself in the “midst,” having His rightful place as the Head.

Here we also find the amazing revelation of the Divine relationship between Christ and The Holy Spirit.  Jesus is the “Golden Candlestick” (The perfect, sinless God/Man) who was “beaten” (scourged) for our healing, and The Holy Spirit who is the oil and the fire!

John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Ex 25:31

And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

Isa 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

1 Peter 2:24

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

John 19:1

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. (beat Him)

The Seven Golden Candlesticks also speak of The Blessed Holy Spirit of God Himself.

Rev 1:12-19

12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

 Isa 11:2

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Rev 4:5

And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

This is an amazing revelation of the perfect Church, filled with the perfect Holy Spirit, with Christ our perfect Head ruling and reigning for evermore!  Hallelujah!
