"Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper."
2 Chronicles 20:20b

THE PROPHET'S REWARD  by Dr. John David Kirby - Part 6

2 Kings 4:11

And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.

As the story unfolds we find Elisha relaxing in the “room” that the woman had built for him.  As he is relaxing and communing with the Lord, he is inspired concerning “the law of sowing and reaping.”  He knew that the Lord “was” going to bless the woman for what she had done for him.

2 Kings 4:12

And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.

Elisha tells Gehazi his servant to call the woman.  It is interesting to note that the name Gehazi means “valley of vision”, or  “valley of a visionary”.  This reveals to us the Seer/Prophet’s ministry of seeing into the spirit world and into the realm of dreams, visions, prophetic sight, hindsight, insight, and foresight.  Gehazi calls her, and the woman wisely and obediently comes to the “man of God.” She came to the “man of God” in the “room” she had made for him.  This is truly the place of “the expected blessing!”

2 Kings 4:13

And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

Elisha tells Gehazi a very powerful truth that is vital for us today!  He told him to tell her “Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee?”  Here is the truth that I want to reveal.  Number one: She provided for the man of God.
Number two: She “will” be rewarded.  Period!
Elisha told Gehazi to tell her that what she has done for him “will be rewarded”!
Notice the phrase “what is to be done for thee”.  Let me emphasize the word “is”.   What “is” to be done for thee?  Notice it didn’t say “what might” be done for thee?  It didn’t say “what may” be done for thee?
It didn’t say “I will ask God if He will bless you because you have been so nice to us”.  It says “what is to be done for thee”.
It is “The Law” of sowing and reaping!  What we sow we will reap!  What we plant we will harvest!  I encourage you to begin to sow today!  If you have been sowing, I encourage you to begin to believe and expect your harvest to come in!  It is the law of God.  It is the promise of God.  It is the Word of God, and God’s Word cannot fail!

Gal 6:7

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

2 Kings 4:13

And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.

Gehazi asks her if she would like to be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host?  She answered “I dwell among my own people.”
I believe that the woman was not only being humble in her response to the man of God’s question, but I also believe that she was not interested in being spoken for to the king or the captain of the host.  I believe that those things did not interest her at all.  I believe that there was something else that she wanted…
Let’s watch and see what happens next!

2 Kings 4:14

And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.

Notice my point again surfacing here in verse fourteen: what then “is” to be done for her?  Gehazi comes up with the answer!  He hits on the secret desire of the woman’s heart!  “A Child!”  She has no child!  This is so important to understand.  A woman in her culture could have “everything” the world had to offer, but if she had no child she had “nothing”.  Especially if she had no “son”!  So here we have a woman who had just that, everything…yet, nothing!  Not only was she childless, the Bible says that her husband was old.  We are now looking at an “impossible” situation!
This is where it gets very exciting!  God takes great delight in making the “impossible, possible”!  Remember the words of the Lord Jesus Himself.

Matt 19:26

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Mark 9:23

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

I encourage you today, that no matter what you are facing.  No matter what the problem is that you are up against.  Remember these words, and believe!  God “will” turn it around for you!  Trust Him and His Word!

Rom 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

God cannot fail!  God’s Word cannot fail!

Isa 55:10-13

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

God will do what He said He would do, when we do what He said for us to do!  Believe it, Do it, and Receive it!  In Jesus Name!

2 Kings 4:15

15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
After Gehazi tells Elisha about the woman’s situation, Elisha commands him to call her. Gehazi obeys the man of God and calls the woman. The woman comes and stands in the door.

This is really an incredible sight!  Let me take some time here and explain some amazing spiritual truths.  The first thing that is of utmost importance in this verse is “the revelation of salvation”.  We find the man of God telling his servant to “call the woman”.  Here is a beautiful picture of the Father God “calling” a person to His Son Jesus Christ, by the person of The Holy Spirit.
Let me explain.  Jesus said that no man can come to Him unless the Father “draws him”.

John 6:44

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

It is through the Person of The Holy Spirit that The Father calls or “draws” a person to Jesus Christ.

John 15:26

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:7-16

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

We see from these Scriptures that The Holy Spirit, The Comforter, The Spirit of Truth will perform His ministry in bringing people to the Lord Jesus Christ!  The Spirit of Truth will lead people to  “The Truth Himself”.

“It is through the Lord Jesus Christ Himself that we come to know and experience the Father God!”

John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Another amazing truth in this passage is the fact that the woman stood in “the door”.  Now, to the “casual observer”, that would mean nothing.  But, to the “prophetic student” of the Bible it speaks volumes!
Jesus Christ Himself is “THE DOOR”!

John 10:9

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
So we see in this Old Testament story a powerful “prophetic picture” of Salvation through Jesus Christ.

The Father God, by The Person of The Holy Spirit draws people to The Lord Jesus Christ, and through The Lord Jesus Christ, into a loving relationship with Himself!

It is very important in studying “the prophetic Scriptures” that we understand the imagery and typology that God uses to “foretell” the things that are to come!

2 Kings 4:15

And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.

We now have the woman standing in the door.  She is standing in the “place of salvation”.  Salvation literally means “deliverance”!  She was standing in the place of deliverance!  Deliverance from her “barren womb”.  Deliverance from the shame and embarrassment of being childless.  Deliverance from the stigma that society had placed upon her.  Deliverance from the torment of being a failure to produce children…especially a boy.

2 Kings 4:16

And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.

As the woman is standing in “the door.”  Elisha predicts the birth of a son for her. He tells her “in essence”, about this time next year, you will have a baby, and it will be a boy!  She is so overwhelmed that she begins to say, “Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.”
I believe that she was so “stunned”,  so “overwhelmed”, so “blown away”,  that she could not believe what Elisha was saying.  I believe that she had given up on the possibility of ever having a child.  I believe that she had given up hope of ever giving birth to a boy. Yet…, I believe that “deep down” in the deepest part of her heart she still desperately “desired” to give birth to a son.  I believe that this was what she really wanted in life!  I believe that this was what she really wanted from God.  I believe that this was the one thing that she had sown her “seeds” for!  And now, God was giving it to her!  I believe that God saw the “desire of her heart” and was about to bring it to pass!  I believe that she was so “floored” by the prediction that she just could not believe it!  So much so, that she told Elisha not to “lie to her”.  This was something so special, something so deep, something so sacred, that she just couldn’t believe that it was happening to her!  Yet it “was” happening to her!  And it “will” happen for “you” too!  This is the reality of “The Prophet’s Reward”.

Even though the woman “thought” that the prophet was “lying” to her about the baby, God brought it to pass.  God’s word is greater than our feelings or emotions.  God’s word is God’s word!

The Lord is teaching us through this story, that the principles that the woman in Shunem activated work!  They worked for her then, and they will work for us today!  They will work for me, and they will work for you!  “If we will “work” God’s word, God’s word will “work” for us!”  That is the truth!

God Almighty was honoring the woman for all that she had done for Elisha and his servant.  God was rewarding her for all that she had done for Him!

Ps 37:4

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Matt 25:40

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I want to encourage you right now to “believe again”!  Believe that the secret desire of your heart will become a reality in your life!  I encourage you to “link up” with a man of God and believe that the dream you have hidden in your heart will manifest itself in the Earth.  Dare to dream big!  God can do it for “you”!  God can do anything!  God is not a respecter of persons, what He did for one He can do for anyone!

Acts 10:34

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

We must put His word into practice.  We must do what He said to do. We must sow if we want to reap!  We must believe if we want to receive!  God did it for the woman in Shunem, He can do it for you too!
If you do like this woman did, and obey God’s Word, He will do it for you!
It is His Word. It is His Promise. It is His solemn Oath!

Num 23:19

God is not a man , that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

                          “God always performs His word!”

2 Kings 4:17

And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.

The word that Elisha gave to the woman came to pass just as he said it would. God gave her the greatest thing He could have given her this side of Heaven!  He gave her, her ultimate desire!

This woman truly experienced “The Prophet’s Reward!”
